The Broken Flag Saga

The Broken Flag

2026– · Second Spanish Civil War

The same bloodline, five centuries later. The saga's final turn.

About the Series

The Broken Flag closes the loop the saga opened five hundred years earlier. Some of Gonzalo's own children returned to Spain in the years after Tenochtitlan fell — and it is their descendants who, five centuries later, find themselves living through a modern, fictional Second Spanish Civil War: a nation fractured not by foreign conquest, but from within.

Where the earlier series follow the bloodline through the wars of their own time, The Broken Flag carries that same family all the way to the present day. Baler and Other Stories, the first of several planned companion collections, widens the lens beyond the family itself — following ordinary people whose lives collide with theirs as the institutions that once held Spain together come apart. Together, they trace the complete moral arc of civil conflict: idealism, complicity, atrocity, and the fragile first steps of reconciliation.

It is the culmination of The Broken Flag Saga: the last turn of a wheel that began in 1519.
